Surprisingly, animation, a category we rarely cover, made it to the Number 2 spot in the Art MoCo Top 10. Amy Winfrey’s 5-minute animated videos (2 seasons’ worth), entitled Making Fiends, are about a little green girl, a nasty piece of work, and the new kid in town who really, really wants to be her friend. These are so full of expression that they have to be seen to be truly understood...

... and Art MoCo’s top pick for 2006 is the jelly donut, as seen by Emily Eveleth. This painter brings life to her subject, adding a dimension of emotion and sensuality where one would least expect it. What impresses us the most about this artist’s work is that it is really portraiture, rather than banal still life. And to see these donuts much, much larger than life is to really, really want them.
