Julianne Swartz’s bubble portraits started off the week weightlessly – perfect for the heat of the summer. Nothing better than letting the mind float while gazing into the clouds or the ripples of the water.

Shannon Bonatakis creates characters that have a little more on their minds. Her illustrations are full of compelling atmosphere.

Chris O’Doherty’s paintings have a touch of the naively surreal about them.

Anne Faith Nicholls paints a world of old-fashioned animals and youth where rainy days can’t quite put out fires.

And Sage Vaughn’s birds and children live in a world that goes further than the threat of rainy days, one where the realities of urban living cannot be escaped. And so the bubble bursts … SM
