SHADE by Christopher Moulder
by Harry / July 21, 2009

A lamp shade that is the lamp. Christopher Moulder rethought the seemingly overworked and simple lamp shade and created a shade that incorporates several bulbs on its edge - but went one step further, the shade conducts electricity so there are no wires - the shade is thus the lamp and socket...

From Christopher Moulder:

SHADE brings new life to an iconic form with a formal, tuxedo-like appearance with its terminations to the bulbs referencing bow ties and the stainless steel button head cap screws alluding to silver studs and cuff links.
SHADE is a low voltage fixture using its aircraft aluminum body to conduct electricity to 28, 12V/10W high efficiency, long life and high color rendering Xenon Festoon bulbs. Finished meticulously with catalyzed acrylic enamel, SHADE is available in three colors: torch red, white and silver metallic.

SHADE is fully dimmable and comes with a magnetic transformer which can be located remotely or in the included canopy which mounts easily to standard junction boxes.

And it will heat your house....

Seriously, these lamps throw a lot of heat......real pigs.

Look at LED or oleds

Looks very funky... heat won't be a problem for a cold weather country.. well a LED one would be better for energy saver.. but other than that.. where can i buy one..Sheer

Not exactly an energy saver either... 280 watts for what looks like not a whole load of light. 280 watts = 21 13w CFLs, which is enough to light my house three times over... or I could have this light over my dinner table.

Not a bad idea, just not to big a fan of the design. Cool that it is self conducting.

I have 2 of Christopher Moulder's "Schproket" lamps hanging in my hallway. They do not get hot like many low voltage pendant lights do.
