BeaMalevich: Build Your Own Architecton
by Harry / July 29, 2009

BeaMalevich is a construction game inspired by the architectons of Kazimir Malevich, the 20th century Russian avantgarde artist. Malevich was the creator of Suprematism, an art movement focused on fundamental geometric forms. BeaMalevich allows you to "be a Malevich" and create your own architectons...

From BeaMalevich:

When Malevich created Suprematism, he was looking for an art beyond reality, a non-objective visual world, beyond anything seen before an going further any previous art movement. It is focused on basic geometrical forms (in particular, the square and circle) When Kasimir Malevich invented Suprematism in 1915 he was already an established painter. In his book The Non-Objective World, published abroad as a Bauhaus Book in 1927, Malevich described the inspiration which brought about the powerful image of the black square on a white background: 'I felt only night within me and it was then that I conceived the new art, which I called Suprematism'. Architectons followed as an architectural development of Suprematism: "Consciousness has surmounted surface and has advanced to the art of spatial design". Our construction game wants to be a humble tribute to Malevich and his architectons
This Architecton is a construction game Inspired by the Alpha architecton of Kazimir Malevich. The idea is that you play being Malevich and create your own one. It is ideal for art lovers and architects, and people who like design and aesthetic as a part of their lives. We have now two presentations, Alpha C3 and Alpha C4.

Wtf, is that really funny?

Great idea. Give somebody a sculpture. Dare to act as a sculptor. A new wave of games inspired by Modern and Suprematist models intends to turn the act of playing into an excuse for culture or —following the same rule of thumb— turn culture into an excuse for playing. Whatever that be, the trick is to learn through play. I just bought one at the Building Museum in Washington DC. Funny or not, I love it.

Can you believe that these people are charging 55 euros for a few plastic pieces that they have ripped off of a dead architect? The only art that I can see here is Beamalevich as a scam artist. This group and everybody that is employed by them should be blacklisted from the world of design.

Johnny, "these people" is me, the pieces are not plastic and I have not ripped off any dead architect. The BeaMalevich project was created with a dual intention. In the first place, to spread the knowledge of XXth Century Russian Avantgarde artists, some of them little known. In second place, to give art lovers a creative challenge and to get them to enjoy it fully, by getting them to create an imaginative ground to fill up their current environment (their home, workplace, with their family and friends…)
The project keeps developing with new ideas, but I want to retain certain exclusivity in its development and scope. I do not intend to go big, nor mass market, and we wish to preserve our handmade flavour during the whole process, from the creation to the manufacturing and distribution.

Hey Xavier,
I am a teacher of high school students in Chicago. I would love to incorporate your BeaMalevich learning blocks into my classroom curriculum. It seems to be a good object for teaching massing and (a lesson from Rowena Reed Kostello), dominant, subdominant and subordinate sculpture lessons. I can reuse them for all five classes as well. Please contact me and let me know if Chicago Public Schools can purchase them direct from you. We work closely with Chicago Architecture Foundation and could possibly use them for a workshop.

Thank you

Dear Norman, you can contact me at xavier@beamalevich.com
