The ball joints in car and hip replacements are what got Alissia Melka-Teichroew into using selective laser sintering to create the ball within a ball as one piece. Et voilĂ ... the industrial connector became jewellery.

The pieces in the Jointed Jewels collection seem to have been intricately assembled, but each was a single piece made in one shot.

Though the pieces may be of different shapes, they all share the same "birthing" process.

References from iconic jewellery, including luxury brands such as Bulgari and Cartier, can be found in the forms of the Jointed Jewels.

Many of the bangles, necklaces and rings are interpretations of renaissance and Victorian jewels.

Multi-tiered pieces have connecting joints that pick up on human bone structure.

Because Jointed Jewels is a work in progress, it is expected that other articles based on 3D printed ball joints, also made in a single process, in different product genres will be joining the family in the future.
