Saved by Droog, a collection of 5135 items bought from liquidation sales and transformed into new products, was recently on display during the Milan furniture fair. Fourteen different designers re-imagined these items to create a new collection of nineteen products. Among our favorites were the 102 wooden spoons given a mouth-watering pink coating by eating designer Marije Vogelzang.

Maison Martin Margiela added a piece of Victorian history to eleven bland coffee cups with a silver molded moustache guard.

I even got into the buying spirit and asked Droog leader Renny Ramakers to personalize my Studio Makkink & Bey Daily Handkerchief by sealing it with a lipstick kiss.

After some discussion, it was decided that Ramakers would instead have her nail painted by one of the on-site artists and press the image onto the fabric.

The design proved too lovely for Ramakers to destroy, however, and business negotiations quickly broke down.

Although I left empty handed, I was still impressed by the creativity put into each product and the social commentary the exhibition provoked.
