Caleidoscope by Frederike Top

At first glance, the Caleidoscope lamp by Frederike Top appears to be plain and utilitarian, but peer inside the shade and all will be revealed.

The stainless steel shades have a matte, water-based coating. The simple folds result in a familiar, practical shape.

But the magic happens inside the shade where a lit pattern is reflected on the walls of the shade's structure.

It becomes immediately clear where the name comes from, as the central pattern generates multiple versions of itself.

Standing directly under a Caleidoscope lamp is like having a secret.

These Caleidoscope lamps were shown at the Tuttobene exhibition of work by young Dutch designers in Zona Tortona during Milan's Design Week.
